Mammoth Weather Makes The News
Snow, and more snow is falling on Mammoth Mountain. After a perfect, "blue bird" Presidents' weekend of warm, sunny days, the ski resort gets a refreshing of fluffy powder. The 12 foot base had begun to melt, get hard, and pack down, but the sunshine was a welcome blessing after so much December and January snow. Just when it looked a little worn, the snow began to fall again.
This week so far, Mammoth Lakes has received 17" of new snow which has been the town and ski slopes white again. The weather is chilly, and with snow comes light wind. The deep powder is being groomed, and with that, the super pipe at Main Lodge in the terrain park has opened. It is really super too! The sides go up about 20 feet in the air, so watching the high-flyer snowboarders is a treat.
As a reminder, when it snows, you will need either chains, or 4WD with Snow Tires. Mud and Snow Tires have larger tread and are the most safe. Without Snow Tires, you will have to put chains on your 4WD to get around town without slipping and sliding.
