Mammoth Mountain Resort Open Until June 14

Mammoth ski resort has now promised that closing day is June 14, 2009. Due to the quantity of snow, cool nights and great grooming, the skiing is pretty darn good. Having skied on Memorial Day weekend, I can report that the best time is early in the morning till about noon. Mammoth is open from 7:30 - 2:00 PM, and the prime snow conditions are from 8:30-12:00. The lower lifts are where you start, and as the day warms up, you climb higher up the mountain. The terrain park has been moved to the back of chair 3, but more fun than that, is the World Cup run from the top of Cornice. The US Ski Team has been training and once they leave the course, it is open to the public. A lot of fun are the rollers on St. Anton. We call them "whoopdee-doos". Also very good was Scotty's, and Mambo. It seems odd to go skiing when it is 85 degrees in Los Angeles, but the weather being warm and sunny, and cool at night, makes mountain play time much better than the beach!
