MAMMOTH LIFE & WELLNESS RETURNS AUGUST 24-26, 2007
Mammoth Lakes, CA - Health enthusiasts can retreat to beautiful Mammoth Lakes, California for a weekend of total wellbeing for Mammoth Life and Wellness, August 24-26, 2007. Experts will lead three days of lectures and programs covering topics including meditation, integrative medicine, healing, stress reduction, healthy cooking and more. In addition to learning, each day will be full of options to encourage movement - from yoga and Pilates classes to outdoor bike rides and hikes.

Saturday night's keynote speaker is Dr. Pamela Peeke, an internationally recognized physician, scientist and expert in the fields of nutrition, metabolism, stress, and fitness. Based on her recent book, Fit to Live: The 5 Point Plan to Become Lean, Strong and Fearless for Life, Peeke will present wellness with a twist, challenging attendees with the question: "Are you Fit to Live?"-mentally, nutritionally, physically, financially and environmentally - and the "21st century lifestyle-expanding waistline connection," as well as her holistic plan to optimize men and women's ability to literally cut the fat from lifestyle habits as well as their bodies.

David Simon, M.D., Co- Founder, CEO and Medical Director of The Chopra Center for Wellbeing at La Costa Resort & Spa will be the headliner on Friday night. He will present the "Ten Commitments - Consciously Creating a Magnificent Life." Many people sense what they need to create a life of happiness, love, health, and meaning, but the challenge is translating intentions into actions. The Ten Commitments provide simple, empowering action steps in support of healing and transformation.

Returning for its second year, participant feedback from the inaugural event guided Mammoth Life and Wellness 2007 to include more outdoor sessions so attendees can take advantage of Mammoth's incredible mountain scenery and outdoor recreation opportunities. Local practitioners will guide classes in Tai Chi, Pilates and all levels of yoga plus guided walks, hikes and bike rides so attendees can explore the Mammoth area.

Out of town visitors can stay within walking distance from seminars, classes and evening events at The Village Lodging with the Life and Wellness Lodging Package. The package includes three nights lodging, all three days of the event plus a limited edition canvas tote bag for $469 per person. The Total Wellness Pass includes choice of all programs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday including Keynote Speakers for $235 through August 10 ($265 after August 10). Solo tickets are also available for Friday, Saturday or Sunday for $99 before August 10 ($115 after August 10). Mammoth Mountain Bike Park will offer the Women's Mountain Bike Camp for a third year this August17-19. The three-day program is quickly growing in popularity with new participants joining the enthusiastic returnees each summer. The camp is designed for female riders from beginner to intermediate levels to pick up new skills in a fun environment.

"The big thing is meeting friends," said Amy Harris, a first grade teacher from San Diego. Harris still keeps in touch with two women she met at the camp, and emphasized that going into the weekend, mountain bike skills matter less than the desire to have a good time. "Everybody's just cracking up - you're all there to have fun. It's like your little cheerleading group while you're out there."

The camp begins with a "welcome reception" on Thursday evening. On Friday morning participants meet the instructors at 9am for 5 hours of mountain biking. The staff, led by Laura Bates, checks everyone out on the first trail to assess their riding. Laura Bates has been cross country mountain biking for six years, living in Mammoth for the last two summers. She has been known to pedal 100 miles in a day, and in winter works as a Mammoth Mountain Ski Patroller.

On Saturday the camp reconvenes at 9am for another day of riding. The staff typically provides a choice of working on different skills. For example, one group might learn cornering on Off the Top and another group might work on shoving their tires into the pumice to make it through the rough Eastern Sierra terrain. The weekend comes to a close on Sunday with brunch at the Mountainside Grill and the option for participants to ride on their own or with new friends.
