Trailhead maps
There are some great guidebooks that are available at the Ranger Stations. We have some popular maps in our travel section.
Don't forget, you will need a Wilderness Permit in order to get on the trails during the busy season. There are great maps and books available at the Ranger Stations, so don't leave camp with out some. Some of the wilderness is inhabited by mountain lions, and bears...oh my. Please be conscious of nature. Leave no trace.

If you are unfamiliar with the territory, you may wish to consider a certified guide to ensure a safe trip. Commercial guiding on the National Forest is strictly regulated, and on some trails may not be allowed. The Mount Whitney Trail is an area of particular concern. For current information and more details about the availability of guides for the Whitney Trail or other trails, contact the Inyo National Forest.
